Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior official stated the attack rendered him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
